Category: Mokara Orchids From Thailand
  • Description

Mokara Nora Blue is a striking hybrid orchid known for its deep blue-purple petals and long-lasting blooms. As part of the Mokara family – a cross between the Vanda, Ascocentrum, and Arachnis orchid genera – this variety is highly valued for its resilience, adaptability, and vibrant coloration. Its unique appearance and durability make it a popular choice for floral arrangements, event decorations, and commercial resale.

Breeding Information

Mokara Nora Blue is bred through a careful hybridization process to ensure it inherits the best traits of its parent species. This orchid typically features large, vivid blue to violet-colored flowers with a waxy texture, making it an eye-catching addition to any floral display.

  • Size & Dimensions: The flowers of Mokara Nora Blue range between 4 to 5 cm in diameter, and each stem can produce multiple blooms. The plant itself can grow up to 60 cm tall when mature.
  • Weight & Age: A well-established plant usually weighs around 1 to 2 lbs and takes about 2 to 3 years to reach maturity.
  • Meaning: Blue orchids symbolize peace, tranquility, and uniqueness, making them ideal for upscale floral arrangements, luxury gifting, and themed events.

Origin of Mokara Nora Blue

The Mokara orchid was first developed in Singapore in the 1960s to create a more resilient and free-flowering hybrid. Mokara Nora Blue, like other Mokara varieties, originates from Southeast Asia, where tropical climates provide the perfect growing conditions. Due to its adaptability, this orchid is now cultivated in various parts of the world, particularly in Thailand, where large-scale commercial production ensures a steady supply for global markets.

How to Take Care of Mokara Nora Blue

Understanding Mokara Nora Blue‘s care requirements is essential for businesses looking to stock it. Proper maintenance ensures longer shelf life and better-quality blooms, making these orchids more appealing to florists and event planners.

Light & Temperature Requirements

Mokara Nora Blue thrives in bright, indirect sunlight. Ideally, it should receive at least 6 to 8 hours of light per day to promote healthy growth and consistent flowering. In commercial greenhouses or nurseries, artificial grow lights can supplement natural sunlight if needed.

The ideal temperature for these orchids is between 65°F to 85°F (18°C to 29°C). Since they prefer warm and humid environments, it is crucial to keep them away from cold drafts or air-conditioned spaces.

Watering Frequency

Unlike some orchid varieties, Mokara orchids do not have pseudobulbs to store water, so regular watering is essential. Water the plant 2 to 3 times per week to keep the roots moist but not overly saturated. If growing in a greenhouse or a humid climate, watering can be adjusted to prevent overhydration.

Fertilization

To support healthy blooms, fertilize once a week using a balanced 20-20-20 orchid fertilizer diluted to half strength. During the active growing season (spring and summer), increase feeding to encourage more flowers. In the dormant season (fall and winter), reduce fertilization to every two weeks.
